Root Canal Therapy
What is a root canal?
A root canal is one of the most common dental procedures performed, well over 14 million every year. This simple treatment can save your natural teeth and prevent the need of dental implants or bridges.
At the center of your tooth is pulp. Pulp is a collection of blood vessels that helps to build the surrounding tooth. Infection of the pulp can be caused by trauma to the tooth, deep decay, cracks and chips, or repeated dental procedures. Symptoms of the infection can be identified as visible injury or swelling of the tooth, sensitivity to temperature or pain in the tooth and gums.
If you experience any of these symptoms, your dentist will most likely recommend non-surgical treatment to eliminate the diseased pulp. This injured pulp is removed and the root canal system is thoroughly cleaned and sealed. This therapy usually involves local anesthesia and may be completed in one or more visits depending on the treatment required. Success for this type of treatment occurs in about 90% of cases. If your tooth is not amenable to endodontic treatment or the chance of success is unfavorable, you will be informed at the time of consultation or when a complication becomes evident during or after treatment. We use local anesthesia to eliminate discomfort. In addition, we will provide nitrous oxide analgesia, if indicated. You will be able to drive home after your treatment, and you probably will be comfortable returning to your normal routine.

Endodontic Presentation
To provide you with a better understanding of endodontic procedures, we have provided the following multimedia presentation. Many common questions pertaining to root canal therapy are discussed.
What happens after treatment?
When your root canal therapy has been completed, a record of your treatment will be sent to your restorative dentist. You should contact their office for a follow-up restoration within a few weeks of completion at our office. Your restorative dentist will decide on what type of restoration is necessary to protect your tooth. It is rare for endodontic patients to experience complications after routine endodontic treatment or microsurgery. If a problem does occur, however, we are available at all times to respond. To prevent further decay, continue to practice good dental hygiene.
How much will it cost?
The cost associated with this procedure can vary depending on factors such as the severity of damage to the affected tooth and which tooth is affected. In general, endodontic treatment is much less expensive than tooth removal and replacement with an artificial tooth.

Dr Rishwain and his team are amazing!!! I’ve come across a number of his other patients at my gym, and everybody loves Dr. Rishwain! No one wants a root canal, till you need one, and then you have to be grateful for the kind of compassionate, efficient, and excellent care I have experienced in this office. Sarah and Vanessa got me in right away on both occasions. Lis, Dr.’s assistant, is so sweet and proficient and makes you feel comfortable thru the whole process, and Dr. Rishwain.... well! He is kind and funny on top of being an excellent endodontist!!! He took great care with getting me fully numb, and used a bite block to allow me to rest my jaw. They also gave me a neck pillow ..... all so I would feel comfortable during the procedure. Dr. Rishwain also works thru a microscope..... he has all the latest technology for the best chance to save my tooth, and I so appreciated the care and outcome I received I would highly recommend this office with confidence!

Dr. Manoukian was referred to me by my dentist; Dr. Eliza Hyatt of Larkspur Family Dentists as I needed a specialized root canal. They fit me in that day to assess my tooth. The staff was very friendly and helpful and office was very professional. Dr. Manoukian gave me a consultation that was very clear and I was able to schedule my root canal the next day. I have had a lot of medical treatment and dental work and I would like to say that the office, staff and Dr. Manoukian is peerless. My root canal was painless and he completely alleviated any nervousness by being kind, thoughtful and sensitive. I appreciated that he gave very clear explanations of what he was doing all through the procedure. Completely a 5 star experience. I highly recommend him and his office. Arden H

I've had a lot of very traumatic experiences with dental work over the years, but Dr. Rishwain has eased any former anxiety about the dentist! I never knew how relaxed I could be, especially during a root canal! His medication administration technique was completely painless and I felt no discomfort at all during the procedure. I was very concerned about pain as I have extremely sensitive teeth, but even with only a local anesthetic I was more than ok. I barely even had to take any ibuprofen after it was done! I was able to eat by the evening without issue. I can even eat cold things straight out the refrigerator, and drink iced drinks which I haven't been able to do for years! The staff was gentle and kind and the office atmosphere was professional and comfortable. It took a lot of coaxing to get me back into a dental chair after my past experiences with Western Dental (don't EVER go there unless you are a masochist) but I would not hesitate a moment to walk through the doors of Marin Endontics again. I plan on sending everyone I know to them! Thank you Marin Endontics for allowing me to trust a dentist with my teeth again!

I saw Dr. Dudum for the first time because I needed a root canal in the back of my mouth. Dr. Dudum is great- he explained everything he was going to do and checked in with me throughout the procedure. My root canal was smooth and went much faster than I thought it would. His staff is really nice and friendly. And the office has a lot of natural lighting and is comfortable, with beautiful views of the trees outside. I would definitely recommend Dr. Dudum!
