Endodontic Treatments
At Marin Endodontics, we specialize in endodontic treatment. This is the field of dentistry that is involved in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of disorders relating to the dental pulp (the soft tissue which makes up the inside of a tooth). The pulp consists of blood vessels, nerves and connective tissue, which are important in tooth development. Unfortunately, after tooth development, the pulp can become inflamed or infected due to decay, deep restorations, fractures, trauma or a variety of other etiologies. When the pulp is diseased, removal of the pulp is often required. This is called endodontics or root canal treatment.
Those specializing in root canal treatment are called endodontists. In addition to being expertly trained in these procedures, Drs. Rishwain, Rohde, Manoukian, Dudum and Chee are also specially trained in endodontic re-treatment. Endodontic retreatment is often required when a root canal fails. Retreatment consists of identifying the cause of the failure and special procedures to facilitate the retreatment. These procedures require the use of an operating microscope, sounding devices, ultrasonic instrumentation and a variety of other specialized equipment to ensure success. Successful treatment enables patients to retain their teeth for a lifetime.
