Pre-Operative Endodontic Instructions

  1. You may maintain a normal diet immediately prior to the appointment, but avoid alcohol and caffeinated beverages.
  2. If you have valvular heart damage, a history of rheumatic fever, prosthetic heart valves or cardiac pacemakers, you should be pre-medicated with antibiotics prior to treatment.
  3. If you have prosthetic joints or implants, you should be pre-medicated with antibiotics prior to treatment.
  4. If you experience anxiety during dental procedures, anti-anxiety medications may be extremely helpful. Please discuss this with the doctor. Follow the directions carefully and make arrangements to be accompanied by an adult to and from your appointment when taking these medications.
  5. If you anticipate requiring special attention to insure your comfort during appointments, do not hesitate to discuss these requirements with the doctors and/or staff.
  6. Wear comfortable clothing.
  7. Complete the medical history and patient information prior to treatment.
  8. Please provide all insurance information and complete any insurance forms that are required.
  9. Discuss financial arrangements prior to treatment.
  10. The advanced techniques and materials that we employ in endodontics have enabled us to provide our patients with an extremely high degree of success. Some cases, however, cannot be resolved conventionally and may require further treatment or extraction. This can be especially true in the case of teeth with pre-existing root canals or fractures.
  11. All posterior teeth (bicuspids and molars) and some anterior teeth (incisors and cuspids) will require partial or full coverage (onlays or crowns), which will be placed by your dentist. The endodontist may place a build-up in preparation for the procedure.
  12. Literature regarding the nature of endodontic therapy, endodontic retreatment, endodontists and post-operative endodontic care will also be provided. Please read this literature. We will be happy to discuss this information further during your next visit.
  13. We appreciate the confidence you have placed in our practice. We will attempt to provide the best care available to maintain that confidence.
